Introducing Google Tag Manager for forms
Forms now support Google Tag Manager, letting you track form views, step progression, successful submissions, and errors. Connect your own container, use consent-based tracking on hosted forms, and send events from embedded forms to your website's existing Google Tag Manager setup.
Connect Google Tag Manager: Add your own Google Tag Manager container to a form directly from the form editor.
Track form activity: Automatically send events for form views, step progression, successful submissions, and submission errors to Google Tag Manager.
Privacy-conscious tracking: Hosted forms display a cookie consent banner, and Google Tag Manager only loads after visitors select Accept all. The banner uses your account's existing cookie banner settings.
No personal form responses shared: Events include the form's name, but never the information visitors enter into the form.
Support for embedded forms: Embedded forms send the same events to the Google Tag Manager container already running on your website.
Forms are an important part of how businesses collect sign-ups and connect with customers. Understanding how visitors interact with them helps you see what's working and where people might be dropping off.
With Google Tag Manager support, you can bring form activity into the analytics and advertising tools you already use, without needing to track these interactions manually.
What this means for you
Measure form performance: See how many visitors view your forms, progress through steps, and submit them.
Understand the sign-up journey: Use form events to identify where visitors encounter errors or stop progressing.
Connect with your existing tools: Use Google Tag Manager to bring form activity into your analytics and advertising setup.
Respect visitor consent: For hosted forms, tracking only starts after visitors accept cookies.
Where to find it
Open your form in the form editor and navigate to Settings → Analytics.
Enable Google Tag Manager, then enter your Google Tag Manager container ID.
