Customer identification
Recognize customers in a scan or lookup on every channel. Use a wallet pass, a QR code, a card, or a phone number, and attach the transaction to the right record every time. Because identification is fast enough for a queue, it doesn't slow your service at all.
A wallet pass in Apple or Google Wallet. A QR code in the app or the portal. A physical loyalty card or a barcode on a keyring. A phone number or email looked up at the till. A store login online. A license plate at a car wash or car park. Any identifier your own systems already use: a membership number, a booking reference, a token from a partner. Each is a contact identifier pointing at the same customer, so the channel uses whichever one it has.
The wallet pass appears on the lock screen when the customer is near the store, so it's already open when they reach the counter. Scanning it, or a QR, or a card, takes the time it takes to read a barcode. A lookup by phone number is a few digits. Identification is designed around the seconds a staff member has, because a method that takes longer than that is a method nobody uses.
A kiosk, an ordering app, an order-at-table screen, or a webshop recognizes the customer without anyone behind a counter. Scan the pass, enter the code, or log in, and the surface holds a secure session on the customer's own account for as long as they're using it. Self-service surfaces are where most transactions go unattributed, and they don't have to be.
The moment a customer is identified, every surface has their profile: tier, balance, rewards, preferences, history, and what Decisioning has just chosen for them. Identification is the trigger for everything that happens in the interaction, which is why the share of transactions with an identified customer is the metric this layer lives on. And it's recognition the customer chose, by presenting something they hold or logging in to something they own. Nobody is tracked without knowing it.
