Referral programs
Let your best customers bring the next ones, and pay only for the ones who are real. Give every member a personal code, reward both sides at the moment you choose, and track each referral from the share to the first purchase. Because the friend becomes a contact on the same record, a signup online and a first visit in store complete one referral.
Set a reward for each side, drawn from the catalog: points, a voucher, credit, a free item, tier progress, or anything else the program offers. Rewards can differ, so the referrer gets what keeps them referring and the friend gets what brings them through the door. Choose when each is issued: on signup, on first purchase, or on a spend threshold, so the program pays for the outcome it wants.
Every customer has a personal referral code, link, and QR, carried on their wallet pass and shareable by message, social, or in person. When the friend uses it online, at the till, or by signing up with the code at the counter, the referral is attributed. Because the friend becomes a contact on the same record system, a signup online and a first purchase in store are one referral, completed. The referrer can see where each referral stands, which is the part that makes people share again.
The referred contact is verified. Their identifiers, payment details, and other signals are checked against the referrer and against existing accounts, so self-referrals and re-referrals of existing customers are caught before anything is paid. Rewards can be held until a qualifying purchase completes. Referral counts are capped per period, so the mechanic rewards recommendations and shuts out referral farms. Detail on the checks sits under fraud and abuse prevention.
Your referral link doesn’t have to be stuck in the footer. Ask the customers most likely to refer, at the moment they're most likely to: after a good visit, on completing a stamp card, on reaching a tier. Decisioning can choose a referral prompt as an action when it's the highest-value thing to do for a satisfied customer. And the result is measured properly: referred customers' retention and lifetime value against every other acquisition channel, and the cost per acquired customer against paid alternatives.
Reward structure design
Decide what the referrer gets, what the friend gets, and at which moment each is paid, so the program pays for a customer and never for a form.
Referral request scheduling
Choose the moments when customers are invited to refer, such as after a completed stamp card or a tier upgrade, and how the invitation is worded.
Payout verification
Hold referral rewards until the new customer is verified and has purchased, and release or refuse each on the checks.
Referral cap review
Set how many rewarded referrals one customer can earn in a period, and adjust it as the program's patterns emerge.
Referred customer follow-up
Plan what a referred customer receives after their first purchase, so the acquisition becomes a second visit.
